Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your role in the company?
My name is Dominic Chan, and I am approaching 13 years with ME Elecmetal. When I joined the company, I never imagined that my career would take me from technical engineering roles to leadership positions within the commercial side of the business.
My background is in chemical engineering, and before joining ME Elecmetal I worked in industries ranging from biofuels as a process engineer to oil and gas and mining as a project metallurgist and foreman on the floor. Those experiences taught me the value of curiosity, adaptability, and continuous learning, qualities that have continued to shape my career today.
Throughout my time at ME Elecmetal, I have been fortunate to take on opportunities that pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me grow professionally. I am now preparing to assume the role of Sales Director for Canada, a challenge that excites me because it represents another opportunity to learn, contribute, and support the long-term success of our customers and team.
What attracted you to ME Elecmetal?
Initially, I was attracted by ME Elecmetal's reputation as respectable cast steel company in the mining industry which tied to my experience in metal smelting/refining business. What convinced me to join was the feeling that this was an organization with momentum and clear direction.
We continue to evolve, adapt to changing market conditions, and pursue new opportunities while staying true to its core values. Being part of that journey has been both professionally rewarding and motivating.
How has your professional development journey been within the organization?
My professional development at ME Elecmetal has been driven by continuous learning, cross-functional experience, and the opportunity to work with teams and customers across diverse markets and cultures. Throughout my career, I have contributed in technical, commercial, and leadership capacities, which has enabled me to develop both specialized expertise and a broader business perspective.
Rather than following a conventional career path, I intentionally pursued experiences that expanded my understanding of different aspects of the business. Moving between technical and commercial roles provided valuable insight into our products, services, operations, and customer challenges, to develop a well-rounded view of the industry.
What stands out most is the trust the organization places in its people. By providing meaningful responsibilities, encouraging continuous development, and fostering strong customer partnerships, ME Elecmetal has helped prepare me for the leadership opportunities and responsibilities I have today.
What do you value most about working at ME Elecmetal?
Without a doubt, the work culture. What I've always appreciated about ME Elecmetal is the accessibility and openness that exists across the organization. Regardless of title or function, there is a willingness to collaborate, share knowledge, and work together toward a common goal.
Another aspect I value greatly is the flexibility and balance the company provides. With a family of five, maintaining a healthy balance between professional responsibilities and personal commitments is incredibly important. ME Elecmetal has created an environment where I can focus on delivering results while still making time for the things that matter most outside of work.
Whether it's spending time with my family, staying active through running and basketball, or keeping up with my kids' activities, that balance has been essential to my well-being.

Can you share an experience that reflects teamwork within the company?
One experience that stands out involved a customer that encountered a significant production challenge related to components we were supplying. The situation required rapid decision-making, clear communication, and close coordination across multiple functions within the organization.
What impressed me most was the way our teams aligned. Technical, foundry team, logistics and I worked collaboratively to develop mitigation plans, and keep the customer informed at every stage. Despite the urgency and complexity of the issue, there was a commitment to finding the best possible outcome for the customer.
The experience reinforced the importance of teamwork and customer partnership. While customers expect quality products, they place equal value on responsiveness, transparency, and accountability when challenges arise. By working together and maintaining open communication, we were able to resolve the issue, preserve the customer's confidence, and strengthen the relationship to where it is now.
That experience reinforced something I have learned throughout my career: great results are rarely achieved by one person alone.
How does your team help solve challenges in the mining industry?
Mining is a dynamic and demanding industry. Market cycles change, conditions evolve, and customers constantly face new challenges. Our team is present to support them through those challenges step by step.
We do this by combining close customer relationships, technical expertise, and a strong focus on delivering value.
What excites you most about the future of ME Elecmetal?
What excites me most is that we are a company that never stands still. We are growing, exploring new opportunities, and expanding our capabilities to meet the evolving needs of the market.
My own journey is proof of that. I started in a completely different role than the one I hold today, and the opportunities I have been given reflect ME Elecmetal's commitment. Looking ahead, I am thrilled to share knowledge, help develop the next generation of mining professionals, and raise awareness of the value our company brings to the industry.
